The Jakarta Provincial Government’s Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs Agency took part in a major trade and investment forum in Beijing, highlighting efforts to expand international market access for local businesses, especially small and medium enterprises. The initiative reflects Jakarta’s strategy to strengthen trade ties with China while positioning itself as a key distribution and logistics hub in Southeast Asia, supported by its sister city relationship with Beijing. Officials emphasized that stronger trade cooperation can drive inclusive regional economic growth and improve competitiveness among local entrepreneurs.
Head of the agency, Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, noted that Jakarta’s dynamic business ecosystem offers strong opportunities for collaboration, not only in trade but also in supply chains, retail distribution, and the digital economy. She stressed that partnerships must deliver tangible benefits for local businesses through sustainable collaboration and capacity building, particularly by integrating SMEs into global supply chains. The forum also served as a platform to promote Jakarta’s strategic connectivity and access to ASEAN markets for Chinese investors seeking regional expansion.
In addition, the government underscored the importance of digital transformation in enhancing trade efficiency and market reach, especially for SMEs. Efforts to strengthen digital capabilities and cross-border collaboration are seen as essential in building a more competitive and inclusive trade ecosystem. Jakarta also proposed expanding the Jakarta International Trade Expo into a joint annual event with China to further boost international business engagement.
The participation in the forum aligns with Jakarta’s broader ambition to become a globally competitive city, supported by improvements in logistics systems, distribution efficiency, and market connectivity. Through follow-up initiatives such as business matching and trade partnerships, the government aims to unlock more opportunities for SMEs, increase trade value, and reinforce Jakarta’s role in the global economic network.
