Bapemperda Includes Premarital Education in Family Development Bill

Abdul Aziz, Chair of the Regional Regulation Formation Agency (Bapemperda) of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives, confirmed that premarital education will be a key component in the Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on Family Development. He emphasized that providing education for prospective couples is essential to reduce divorce rates and strengthen family resilience. According to him, premarital education should cover not only health aspects but also an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of husbands and wives. This preparation is considered crucial in maintaining strong and harmonious families.

Aziz also expressed appreciation for the premarital education programs that have been implemented by the Jakarta Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (DPPAPP). He noted that these programs should be expanded and improved in quality to reach more people effectively. The Raperda on Family Development already includes provisions related to improving family quality, including premarital education. Technical regulations will later be detailed through a governor regulation to ensure proper implementation.

Looking ahead, the Jakarta DPRD plans to discuss three additional draft regulations related to family issues. These include regulations on women’s protection, child-friendly cities, and population management. Aziz believes that these policies should complement one another to create a comprehensive framework for strengthening families. The integration of these regulations is expected to address various social challenges more effectively.

He expressed hope that all these regulations will bring real benefits to the people of Jakarta. In particular, they are aimed at improving and harmonizing family life across the city. By strengthening family foundations, the government seeks to build a more resilient and stable society. Ultimately, these efforts reflect a broader commitment to enhancing social welfare through well-structured public policies.
