Aquaculture Oversight on Tidung Island Intensified

The Government of the Kepulauan Seribu has intensified oversight of aquaculture activities by directly monitoring floating net cages operated by fishermen groups in Pulau Tidung. This initiative aims to ensure that fisheries practices remain aligned with environmental sustainability while preventing potential marine pollution. Deputy Regent Aceng Zaeni emphasized that such monitoring is essential to maintaining economic activity in the fisheries sector. He noted that responsible management is key to balancing productivity with ecological preservation.

According to Aceng, the operation of floating net cages must be supported by strong ecological awareness among fishermen, particularly in managing feed, waste, and fish stocking density. He stressed that protecting marine ecosystems is directly tied to the long-term sustainability of fishermen’s livelihoods. The local government continues to encourage better practices to ensure that economic gains do not come at the expense of environmental degradation. This reflects a broader push toward sustainable coastal resource management.

The monitoring activities also include direct engagement with community leaders, religious figures, and heads of fishermen groups to gather feedback and strengthen collaboration. These dialogues are seen as crucial in building a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. The initiative is not limited to one location, as similar monitoring efforts are being carried out across other islands in the region. Authorities আশা that these steps will help maintain both ecological balance and economic stability.

Meanwhile, Munawar Salagau from the regional council praised the government’s proactive approach. He warned that excessive aquaculture without proper management could damage water quality and reduce long-term productivity. Munawar highlighted the importance of maintaining environmentally friendly practices to ensure continued benefits for local communities. Overall, the initiative represents a collaborative effort to safeguard marine ecosystems while supporting sustainable economic growth.
