North Jakarta Mayor Urges Public Cooperation in the Fight Against Drugs

The North Jakarta Administration launched a public awareness campaign on the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN), bringing together community representatives to strengthen efforts against narcotics. The event, organized by the North Jakarta Office of the National Unity and Politics Agency (Kesbangpol), was attended by 100 participants from organizations including the Early Community Awareness Forum (FKDM), Urban Village Deliberation Councils (LMK), Karang Taruna youth groups, youth organizations, and other community organizations across North Jakarta. The initiative aims to reinforce cooperation between the government and local communities in combating drug abuse. Officials emphasized that public participation is essential in addressing the growing threat of narcotics.

North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat praised the program, describing drug abuse and trafficking as extraordinary crimes that threaten both national stability and the quality of Indonesia’s human resources. He expressed concern that drug traffickers are increasingly targeting children through new methods, including disguising narcotics as food products such as candy. According to Hendra, children represent the nation’s future, making their protection a shared responsibility. He warned that the addictive nature of narcotics can severely damage the nervous system and jeopardize future generations.

Hendra called on parents, teachers, and local communities to strengthen vigilance and work together to break the chain of drug distribution. He encouraged participants to become strategic partners of the government by educating the public and serving as agents of change within their own neighborhoods. The mayor stressed that stronger collaboration is necessary to create healthy, safe, and drug-free communities under the “Bersinar” (Drug-Free) initiative. He said community awareness remains one of the most effective tools in preventing drug abuse before it begins.

North Jakarta Kesbangpol Head Muhammad Reza Pahlevi explained that the socialization program seeks to build greater community resilience against narcotics by ensuring participants have a shared understanding of the dangers of drug abuse. He noted that drug trafficking methods have become increasingly sophisticated, particularly those targeting elementary school children through disguised food products. The event featured speakers including North Jakarta National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Head Senior Commissioner Irwan Andi Purnawirawan and Jakarta Governor’s Expert Staff Member Muhammad Hikari Ersada. Reza concluded that close cooperation among government institutions, law enforcement, and community organizations is essential to achieving the goal of making North Jakarta a truly drug-free region.
