East Jakarta earned two major awards at the 2026 Jakarta Provincial Urban Farming Festival, held as part of the Jakarta Kreatif Festival (JKF) 2026. Organized by the Jakarta Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) at Istora Senayan on July 4–5, the event recognized outstanding achievements in urban agriculture across the capital. East Jakarta secured first place in the Best Harvest category, while its delegation also contributed to a Museum of Indonesian Records (MURI) achievement by showcasing more than 25 varieties of harvested crops. The accomplishments highlighted the region’s growing commitment to urban farming and sustainable food production.
East Jakarta Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs Fauzi said the awards reflected the collective efforts of local communities, farmer groups, urban farming advocates, and the East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency. He also noted that Cipayung Regional General Hospital (RSUD Cipayung) won second place in the Urban Farming for Healthcare and Social Service Institutions category through its own urban farming program. According to Fauzi, these achievements demonstrate that urban agriculture has evolved beyond a community activity into an effective strategy for strengthening local food security. He emphasized that the initiative also delivers educational, environmental, and economic benefits for residents.
Fauzi explained that urban farming enables communities to make productive use of limited land while promoting healthier and more sustainable food production. The East Jakarta Administration plans to continue strengthening the program by providing guidance for farmer groups and expanding assistance to residents interested in developing urban agriculture. The government also intends to introduce additional initiatives that support food security while improving community welfare. These efforts are expected to encourage wider public participation and maximize the potential of urban farming throughout the municipality.
Meanwhile, East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head Taufik Yulianto credited the success to close collaboration among the municipal government, regional agencies, the Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK), academic institutions, farmer groups, urban farming communities, and the private sector. He said this partnership has been essential in optimizing land use for agriculture, fisheries, livestock farming, and food processing as part of a broader food security strategy. Taufik expressed appreciation to everyone involved for helping East Jakarta achieve strong results at the provincial competition. He also expressed hope that the awards would inspire more residents to embrace urban farming as a way to strengthen food security, improve the environment, stimulate local economic growth, and enhance community well-being.
