South Jakarta Municipal Government Strengthens Budget Governance

The South Jakarta City Administration held a socialization and briefing session on the results of government oversight conducted by the Jakarta Representative Office of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). The event, held at the South Jakarta Mayor’s Office, focused on strengthening governance and improving public service in line with Indonesia’s Public Service Law. South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo emphasized that every government program should be supported by proper planning, adequate budgeting, and effective supervision to ensure accountable and high-quality public services.

Syafrin acknowledged that despite existing oversight mechanisms, some government officials still become involved in legal cases handled by the police, prosecutors, or the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He said these issues are often caused not by a lack of competence, but by weak internal controls, insufficient supervisory systems, poor risk management, and inadequate follow-up on audit findings. He stressed that strong leadership is essential in building an organizational culture based on integrity, accountability, and compliance with regulations.

The mayor also reminded all government agencies to apply four key principles in budget management: compliance with regulations, ensuring budget availability, meeting project schedules, and maintaining quality standards. He encouraged officials to view audits conducted by the Inspectorate, BPKP, and the State Audit Board (BPK) as opportunities to improve governance rather than as punitive measures. According to Syafrin, strengthening internal controls and preventing irregularities are crucial to supporting Jakarta’s transformation into a global city.

Assistant Inspector for South Jakarta Nirwan Nawawi said the event, themed “Strengthening Good Governance Towards Jakarta as a Global and Cultured City,” was attended by 135 participants. The discussions covered planning, implementation, financial management, and public service, all guided by the principles of integrity, transparency, professionalism, and accountability. He expressed hope that participants would apply the lessons from the workshop to improve governance across all stages of government operations.
