The Pasar Rebo Job Training and Industrial Development Center (PPKPI) in East Jakarta has launched its first-ever barbershop training program to meet growing public interest in hairdressing skills and expand employment opportunities in the creative economy. The inaugural program, running from June 24 to August 5, 2026, is attended by 20 participants who receive both classroom instruction and hands-on training in barbering techniques. The initiative is designed to equip participants with the practical skills needed to work in professional barbershops or start their own businesses. It also reflects the increasing demand for skilled workers in the grooming industry.
PPKPI Pasar Rebo Administrative Head, Faiz Ajri, said the program was introduced in response to strong public demand for vocational training in barbering. He noted that the industry continues to offer promising career opportunities, creating a need for workers with certified technical skills. According to Faiz, graduates will have strong prospects of securing employment immediately after completing the course. He expressed confidence that participants would be well prepared to either join existing barbershops or become self-employed entrepreneurs.
Building on the enthusiastic response, PPKPI Pasar Rebo plans to open a second batch of the training program in August with another 20 participants. Upon completing the course, graduates will receive an official certificate from PPKPI as proof of their training and competency in barbering. The certification is expected to improve participants’ employability and support those seeking to establish their own businesses. The program forms part of broader efforts to strengthen workforce skills in Indonesia’s growing creative sector.
One participant, 22-year-old Muchtar Lukman, said he was pleased to join the training after learning about it through PPKPI Jakarta Official’s social media channels. Throughout the course, participants study hair styling, blow-drying techniques, hair and scalp care, hair coloring, and haircutting methods. Muchtar praised the instructors for delivering lessons in a clear and accessible way, making both the theoretical and practical sessions easy to follow. He said the training had provided valuable knowledge that would help him pursue a career in the barbershop industry.
