The South Jakarta Municipal Government has launched the Red-and-White Flag Distribution Movement to mark the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day. South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo said the initiative aims to strengthen nationalism, foster a sense of patriotism, and encourage residents to display the Indonesian flag in their neighborhoods. The campaign was symbolically launched with the distribution of five flags, with the program to be expanded across all subdistricts and urban villages in South Jakarta.
Syafrin called on all regional government agencies to actively participate by distributing flags to residents in their respective areas. He said broad involvement from government officials was necessary to ensure the campaign and flag displays were carried out throughout South Jakarta. Residents have also been reminded to follow the government’s schedule and keep the flags displayed through August 31, 2026.
The initiative is also intended to serve as a tribute to the sacrifices of Indonesia’s national heroes while making Independence Day celebrations more festive. South Jakarta Kesbangpol, the municipal unit responsible for national unity and political affairs, will record the number of flags distributed and displayed by residents. The data will then be compiled at the end of August as part of the government’s monitoring of the campaign.
Kesbangpol South Jakarta Head Ragil Tugiman said various community forums under the agency have also been instructed to support and monitor the movement. He expressed hope that coordination among government officials and community groups would make the display of the Red-and-White flag more widespread across the city. The campaign is therefore being positioned not only as a ceremonial activity, but also as a collective effort to strengthen national pride.
