Ahead of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, around 100 personnel from various agencies repainted the barriers along the bicycle lane on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Senayan, South Jakarta. Kebayoran Baru Subdistrict Head Rachmat Mulyadi said the initiative was aimed at improving the appearance of the area while maintaining cleanliness, order, and the overall condition of the public space. The repainting also helps clearly distinguish the areas for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, which is expected to improve road safety, particularly at night. The work involved personnel from the Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Agency, the Water Resources Agency, the Highways Agency, and other related units.
The repainting covered more than one kilometer of bicycle lane barriers. Work began on Wednesday night and was targeted for completion on Thursday, with the nighttime schedule chosen to minimize disruption to public activities. Rachmat said Jalan Jenderal Sudirman is one of the capital’s most prominent areas, making cooperation between government agencies important in maintaining its appearance. The initiative is part of efforts to create a cleaner, tidier, and more attractive public environment ahead of Independence Day.
Rachmat also urged residents to help maintain the improvements after the work was completed. He asked the public not to litter or engage in vandalism that could damage the newly painted barriers. According to him, preserving the area requires participation from both government personnel and the community. He hopes the improved appearance will continue to provide a positive impression for people using the area.
Local resident Rizky Amin welcomed the initiative, particularly the efforts of the Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling Agency personnel who worked late into the night. He said repainting was necessary because the previously faded bicycle lane barriers made Jalan Jenderal Sudirman appear less well maintained. Rizky also appreciated the decision to carry out the work at night because it avoided disrupting daytime traffic and public mobility. The project is therefore expected to improve both the visual appearance and functionality of the area.
