A total of 25 people requiring social welfare services, or PPKS, were picked up during a joint outreach operation in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The operation was conducted based on officers’ monitoring and reports from residents, with teams sweeping several locations along Jalan Fatmawati and Jalan Darmawangsa. The group consisted of 17 adult men and eight women, who were taken to the Bina Insan Bangun Daya Kedoya Social Institution in West Jakarta for registration, guidance, and further assistance. Officials said the operation was intended to address people gathering in public spaces and prevent them from remaining on the streets.
Head of the South Jakarta Social Agency, Bernad Tambunan, said the PPKS were immediately transported using operational vehicles after being approached. Authorities said the intervention was necessary to ensure they received appropriate assistance rather than simply being removed from public areas. Once at the social institution, they will undergo further assessment and rehabilitation. Officials hope the process can help them avoid returning to the streets.
The operation involved around 75 personnel from the South Jakarta Social Agency, Public Order Agency, Indonesian Military and National Police, along with other agencies. Officers focused on locations identified through public complaints and field monitoring, including ITC Fatmawati, the Blok A area, and the area around the Tribrata Darmawangsa building. Authorities said they have repeatedly provided education and outreach to discourage people from gathering in public facilities to seek money. However, similar groups have continued to return, particularly at night.
Officials hope the latest operation will be the final outreach effort needed in the area. Bernad said people who receive sufficient skills and training should be able to find alternatives to returning to street-based activities. The broader goal is to provide them with a bekal keterampilan, or practical skills, that can support their independence and livelihoods. Authorities are also urging residents not to gather overnight on sidewalks and other public facilities, so these spaces can remain accessible to the wider community.
