PT Transportasi Jakarta, or Transjakarta, donated 30 portable fire extinguishers to residents living near its Cawang Depot and headquarters. The assistance was accompanied by training and simulations to teach residents how to use the equipment properly during a fire emergency. The initiative is intended to strengthen community preparedness and mitigate fire risks during the dry season. It also reflects Transjakarta’s effort to extend its safety culture beyond its own operational facilities and into surrounding neighborhoods.
Transjakarta Director of Operations and Safety, Mohamad Deddy Gamawan, said the company remains committed to building preparedness and a culture of safety among both employees and nearby communities. He appreciated residents who participated in the training and described the program as a collective effort to promote safety, preparedness, and environmental awareness. Deddy emphasized that fire extinguishers should be readily available and kept in working condition. He also encouraged residents to share the knowledge gained from the training with their families and neighbors.
Deddy urged residents to take simple preventive measures, including checking electrical installations and equipment that could potentially trigger fires. He also called on the community to immediately report hazardous conditions before they develop into emergencies. Beyond disaster mitigation, Transjakarta used the program to strengthen communication and cooperation with residential communities around its operational areas. Deddy acknowledged that the high mobility around the Cawang Depot and headquarters can sometimes create inconveniences for nearby residents, making continued communication and collaboration particularly important.
The 30 fire extinguishers were distributed proportionally across residential areas in RW 05, RW 06, RW 07, and RW 08, covering several neighborhood units within each area. Transjakarta said the assistance is intended to provide residents with immediate access to basic firefighting equipment while professional responders are being contacted. The company hopes the combination of equipment, training, and community cooperation will improve local resilience in responding to potential fires. Ultimately, the initiative reinforces the principle that maintaining safety around public transport facilities and residential communities is a shared responsibility between Transjakarta and the people living nearby.
