Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Rano Karno, officially reopened the Universitas Pancasila Transjakarta stop on Lenteng Agung Raya, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, September 15. The stop, which had operated since the 1990s, has been revitalized by PT Transportasi Jakarta, or Transjakarta. Its new design is more modern and includes additional seating for passengers waiting for buses. The revitalization is intended to improve comfort and make public transport more attractive to residents and students.
Rano said the renovated stop should provide practical benefits for the surrounding community, particularly passengers using Transjakarta to reach Universitas Pancasila and nearby areas. However, improving the stop itself is only one part of addressing the broader transport needs of the area. Transjakarta is also planning to build a pedestrian bridge, or JPO, connecting the bus stop with Universitas Pancasila railway station. The proposed connection is expected to make transfers between bus and rail services safer and more convenient.
The planned JPO is also intended to reduce congestion caused by pedestrians crossing between the two transport facilities. Its construction will involve cooperation with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), which owns the station property. The project is targeted for completion in 2028, meaning passengers will have to rely on the existing connection until the new facility is ready. Nevertheless, integrating the two modes could make the area function more effectively as a public transport interchange.
The reopening of the stop highlights the importance of improving Jakarta’s public transport infrastructure beyond simply adding new routes. Comfortable waiting areas, safe pedestrian access, and convenient connections between different modes can determine whether passengers are willing to leave private vehicles behind. For Universitas Pancasila students, commuters, and railway passengers, the planned integration could eventually make daily journeys considerably easier. The challenge now is ensuring that the planned JPO and other supporting improvements are delivered on schedule so the upgraded stop becomes part of a genuinely integrated transport system.
